Israel has carried out large-scale airstrikes in the Abukamal region on the Syrian-Iraqi border, according to a new Syrian agency. On Tuesday night, Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple areas along the Iraqi border, a region believed to be home to a large number of Iranian troops and groups supported by Iran.Although no official casualties were reported, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in the United Kingdom, reported that 23 people were killed in the bombings, seven by Syrian forces and the rest by militants allied with Iran.

Israel has launched a number of attacks on areas accused of being loyal to Iran and the Syrian regime by some military powers. This is the fourth Israeli airstrike in the past two weeks in Syria. Iranian-backed militia bases near the town of Al Bukamal in Deir Ez-Zur were hit by the bombings, which reportedly targeted more than 15 Iranian-linked bases.

The Israeli military has yet to comment on the incident, but Syria claims the attack was carried out by the IDF. The attack came shortly after the Israeli defence minister declared in a loud voice on the Syrian border that they would continue to take action against their enemies.Areas targeted include the Beer Hammar (IRGC and 47th Regiment) Al-Thalath area (IRGC), from which oil tanker lorries travel to the Al-Seiba area of al-Imam base (IRGC) on Hamdan Airport Route (Zainabiyon).

Since the assassination of an Iranian scientist inside Iran, Israel seems to be stepping up its air strikes inside Syria. Israel sent a submarine to the Persian Gulf earlier this month, creating fear in Iran. Israel condemns the military intervention of Iran in Syria and sees it as a threat to the security of Israel.Tensions are strong between Syria and Israel, and Israel frequently targets forces loyal to Assad’s regime and Iran.

Although Israel has carried out indiscriminate attacks against Syria, Hezbollah and Iranian-backed groups in recent years, there is growing concern that Iran will carry out retaliatory attacks against Qassem Suliaman and Muhzen Fakhrizadeh, two of whom have been assassinated by the US and Israel as a result. Both were significant figures in the government of Tehran. During that time, Israel killed senior Assad pro-Syrian militia members and destroyed Iranian bases and arms sent into Syria by Iran.
